Desert Guide Anticipate hiring in Q1
Come join our family of adventure- and people-loving desert pros. As a Dreamland Desert Guide you will work for one of Southwest Utah's premier outfitters and share our singular backyard with guests, from slot canyons to the Wave. You will cover the region's geology, flora, fauna, and history, and carry the naturalist spirit that sets Dreamland guides apart.
- Schedule
- Full time, based out of Kanab. 3 to 5 days a week, and we run seven days a week through the season.
- Pay
- $15.50 an hour to start, and a higher rate if you hold a Wilderness First Responder certification. Overtime and paid training.
- When we hire
- We typically hire once a year, in January.
What you will do
- Prepare the vehicle and supplies before guest pickup.
- Run the tour, teaching guests about the natural and human history of the places we visit.
- Keep everyone comfortable and safe from start to finish.
- Clean the vehicle afterward and get it ready for its next trip.
What we are looking for
- An outgoing personality, a love for the outdoors, and strong people skills. We only hire guides who are excellent with people.
- Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented.
- A basic feel for Southwest desert geology, flora, fauna, and history, with real excitement to learn more. You do not have to be an expert. Our training helps you build knowledge, but you have to be eager to learn.
- Able to think on your feet and stay calm and courteous when the unexpected happens.
- A valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record.
- Current Basic First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to get it.
- Off-road driving skill in deep sand and mud, or real excitement to learn.
- A plus: you already know the areas Dreamland runs to.
- Able to pass a background check and commit to at least one year.
Perks
- Tips from guests, on top of your hourly pay
- An awesome team of desert adventurers
- Industry pro deals
- Subsidized Wilderness First Responder training
Housing in Kanab is tight, so we especially want to hear from people who already live here or have a place to live lined up.

Email jobs@dreamlandtours.netTour Experience Coordinator Currently hiring
You are the voice of Dreamland. Most guests meet you before they meet a guide, on the phone, by email or text, and at the front desk the morning of their tour. You turn a question into a booking, a booking into a correct calendar entry, and a calendar entry into a guide who knows exactly who is coming, what they ordered for lunch, and where they are meeting. You keep the office running so everyone else can do their best work.
- Schedule
- 40 hours, 5 days a week
- Pay
- $18 to $21 an hour to start, depending on experience. Overtime over 40 hours and paid training.
- Location
- Dreamland office, Kanab, Utah
- Start
- Ideally available to start before the end of the year
What you will do
Guests and bookings
- Be the main point of contact for guests by phone, email, text, and in person. Help each group choose the right tour, answer their questions, and make the booking.
- Keep every booking accurate from deposit to final balance, including changes, payments, and refunds or credits within policy.
- Make sure guests have what they need before their trip, from meeting details and what to bring to weather and permit news.
- Fill tours sensibly: pair solo travelers, combine small departures, and offer a second tour when it suits the guest.
- When something goes wrong, find out what happened, make it right with the guest, and tell the management team about anything bigger than a quick fix.
Running the day
- Open the office, check guests in, and make sure the next day's tours are ready: names and counts, lunches, equipment, permits, and manifests.
- Keep the guide schedule and tour calendar current as plans change. When a booking comes in late or a guide drops out, work out who can cover it, check hours and workload, and confirm with the guides.
- Stay in close touch with guides during the day so you know what is happening on every tour.
- Handle surprises as they come up, such as a late guest, a missed permit pickup, a failed payment, or a change in the weather. Decide what you can, and bring in the management team on the rest.
- Follow up on every call, voicemail, and message.
- Close the office by passing anything time-sensitive to the management team.
Permits and partners
- Handle the permit paperwork that goes with our tours, including lottery results, pickups, and reservations for upcoming trips.
- Look after bookings from travel agents and other partners according to each partner's terms.
- Reply to guest reviews in Dreamland's voice, and pass negative ones to the management team.
Keeping the office going
- Keep the office stocked and ready, including supplies, shipping, printed materials, merchandise orders, and the details of guest events.
- Notice when a process or tool is not working and tell the management team.
What we are looking for
- You love people and you love the desert. You have hiked around here or you want to, and you can talk a nervous first-timer into the right tour and out of the wrong one.
- Two or more years in reservations, front desk, guest services, scheduling, or a busy small office. Tour or lodging experience is a plus.
- A customer-centric attitude and care for people, with a selling background preferred.
- Careful with details. Names, counts, times, lunches, and time zones are the whole job.
- Clear, warm, and fast in writing, and comfortable on the phone with people who are stressed.
- Comfortable with computers: booking software, calendars, shared inboxes, and spreadsheets. We will train you on our tools.
- Calm when three things happen at once at 8:15 on a Saturday.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work weekends in season.
- Living in Kanab, or housing already arranged.
Perks
- 10 days a year of paid time off
- Industry pro deals
- Ride-alongs on our tours
- A subsidized Wilderness First Responder course if you want it
- An awesome team, and a job that is even more engaging than it reads on paper
